Flowing across the holy city of Vrindaban - where according to Hindu-lore Lord Krishna has spent most of his adolescence - the sacred Yamuna river is the site of one of the most important rituals among Krishna devotees, the Yamuna Arati.

Apart from being the goddess of love and compassion, Yamuna is also one of Krishna's eight consorts. For the devotees, the daily sunset ritual symbolises Krishna's reunion with his favourite lover and mother of his children. Many worshippers also consider Yamuna to be their mother too.
