Mumbai's Dharavi slum is one of the largest on Earth – according to some estimates it houses more than 1 million people. Their living conditions were grim, but affording proper accommodation in Mumbai is getting harder each year.

As is often seen in the developing world, masses of people are moving from the rural areas to the big cities in hope of a better life. Lacking money, a large number of them end up living in slums such as Dharavi. This turned Dharavi into one of the most demographically and culturally diverse areas in India, one can find people here from every corner of the country.

Hidden in Dharavi's shacks is a booming industry. Thousands of one room businesses are manufacturing goods that are sold to domestic and foreign markets. The total annual turnover is estimated as high as 1 billion USD.
